Da er vi i gang, as they say.
As weather continues to shift back and forth between -11°C snowy winter and +8°C sunny spring, we have started to sow seeds indoors. For now it’s only greenhouse vegetables.
For the first time, we’re sowing simultaneously all 5 varieties of tomatoes we have : Roma, Maja, Cœur de bœuf, Marmande (to kinds) and Black sweet cherry.
There's three different kinds of pepper/chili/paprika : Cayenne pepper, Blanco cristal and California wonder (paprika). When it comes to cucumbers, we have a "hungarian" Delicates (we call it hungarian because we got it from a hungarian friend, no idea if it's a native sort) and Chinese slangen (serpent in norwegian?)
Finally, two kinds of aubergines : Ophelia (only three seeds lefts!) and Avan (unfortunately F1, which means we won't be able to collect the seed to replant them next year).
In order to keep a clear overview on what's what without needing long labels, we've tried a list for the first time. Every sort is associate to a number and every row gets a stick with said numbers. May look a bit unpractical as we'll have to remember which number is what, but ones the seedlings are out and growing, it will be easy to recognize them.
It’s always both exciting and a bit scary to do so, not knowing if the seeds will sprout or if they’re too old/sterile. We’ll see what happens. Now the rows are in the bathroom, where the temperature is stable around 20°C, but once they show their green young noses, we'll move them upstairs, in a colder room (about 10°C) with a led light tube.
Next will be carrots! They're famous for taking ages to grow into seedlings.
What are you sowing this year?
