Garden tour: Winter is coming

Winter is coming and we have to prepare the vegetable garden for the long months ahead with frost and snow. Summer is definitively gone and only few reminiscences of it can be found on the land. It's time to slowly come back in the house and warm ourselves by the fire.

We've harvested all the potatoes, green beans, sweetpeas, squash, cabbages, kale, onions, spring onions, herbs, green tomatoes and almost riped pumpkins. The latter are on the kitchen table, warming up and hopefully maturing. As for the tomatoes, we've patiently waited and once they were red, we've dehydrated and stored them in a jar. We've eaten a lot and have frozen the rest.

We've made jams, jelly and saft from raspberry, currant, black currant, strawberry, cloudberry and blue berry. The black berries unfortunately didn't make it. So the freezer is full of good and sweet treats.

Our once lush and green vegetable garden looks quite different today, as does the woodland around us. It's not too long now until everything goes into the winter rest. As for the garden, it's time to prepare for the cold and start planning the next year.

Take care !
